Where?
If you accept the existence of UFO's as intelligent extraterrestrial life the next logical question is where do they come from? Are we for instance looking at a single point
of origin or are there literally thousands of habited worlds capable of sending out space visitors to this tiny planet of ours?
There is no easy answer to these questions. Thousands upon thousands of stars confirm the enormity of creation! In addition spiral shaped galaxies, visible as no more than
fuzzy pinpricks in the sky contain hundreds of millions of stars, unimaginably distant! Even the closest star Proxima Centauri is a tremendous 4.3 light years away. This might not sound much when
expressed in these easy terms but works out at 40 570 700 000 000 kilometres. By comparison the most distant galaxies are many millions of light years distant!
Faced with this kind of enormity the quest for intelligent life in the universe makes the old needle in a hay stack seem like a simple quest! So just where do we look for
intelligent aliens?
Sirius.
Interestingly enough early societies and civilisations who attributed their knowledge to Beings from other worlds felt their benefactors had arrived from a planet close to
the bright star Sirius! In fact throughout the ancient world Sirius acquired an incredibly devout following of belief and worship, and it was widely accepted as the abode of the gods.
The Pleiades.
Many believe we have also been visited by Beings from the Pleiadean star cluster which from ancient times was highly worshipped! This belief has persisted right on down to
recent times, though science has cast doubt on its eligibility to host any planet bearing stars! The Pleiades we are told are a relatively recent development, no more than sixty million years old, which
astronomers believe is far too short a time for life bearing planets to have developed there! Even so contactees of UFO encounters and prominent psychics have always insisted on a Pleiadean connection!
They answer the scientific objections by saying that life on Earth developed at the earliest possible moment and could likewise have done so on planets close to the Pleiades!
The Great Bear.
In his book The Flying Saucerers author Arthur Shuttlewood draws attention to a possible connection between Arthurian legend and the constellation of the Great Bear, known also as Ursa Major. Shuttlewood points out that Arth-ur or Arth-wr in Welsh means Great Bear! King Arthur was always known and respected for his incredible size, leaving the author to surmise: "...if man on earth was indeed seeded by giants from outer space - they hailed from the Great Bear constellation."
Star-Door.
Remarkably the ancient Egyptian word for star also means door. In other words they saw stars as the opening, or the door to something - but what? Amazingly the hieroglyphic
construction of their name for the star Sirius contains individual symbols that can be deciphered as "Teach to make ready the Star Door"! This seems to further amplify the ancient Egyptian
belief that stars were the entry point to some other dimension, like a tunnel that permitted instant travel to the furthest stars.
Modern Search.
In it's own way the conventional science of today has expended a great deal of time and money in attempting to find it's own star gate and evidence of alien existence. On an
off, a NASA funded operation known as SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) has for thirty years monitored radio waves for hints of intelligent alien messages. This first started with
"Project Ozma", the brainchild of American astronomer Frank Drake! This limited search was directed at a number of stars in the Pleiades and proved entirely fruitless. However Drake remained
convinced that alien life existed and condensed the possibilities into a mathematical equation - The Drake Equation - which he believed showed the overwhelming likelihood of intelligent life on far distant planets. According to his estimates there must be at least ten thousand advanced extraterrestrial civilisations within our Galaxy alone.
Hydrogen 21 Line
According to Drake the logical answer of where to look for signs of alien transmission was to monitor what is known in astronomical circles as the hydrogen 21 line, of the
astronomical spectrum. Unfortunately over the years since Project Ozma, sixty separate searches have failed to arrive at a single piece of conclusive evidence that could conceivably be attributed to an
intelligent signal of alien origin! There were however tantalising exceptions.
The WOW Signal.
Undoubtedly the most astonishing incident in the Ozma Project was the discovery of what later became known as the "Wow signal"! This was an intermittent signal rather like Morse code received by the "Big Ear" telescope at Ohio State University Radio Observatory in the USA! In the end this proved yet another transitory phenomenon that was never heard again. It became known as the Wow signal after the cry of incredulity given by astronomer Jerry Ehman as he watched the signals data appear on the print out.
Million channel wavelength.
Early searches of the nearest star systems were limited to just certain bands and wavelengths. Now powerful computers have extended the potential and the latest on going
project NASA SETI Microwave Observing Project is an all sky search targeting over 15 million separate channels!
The Moon and Mars.
Ironically the existence of aliens much closer to this planet is the firm belief of dedicated Ufologists, psychics and occultists alike. They believe that alien visitors
have set up permanent bases on the Moon and Mars, which they maintain as logistical facilities for repair and refuelling. This may sound laughable, but if once we accept UFO's exist, and are visitors
from other solar systems then we have also to accept that occasionally they will be in need of logistical support.
The existence of aliens on the moon has even been quoted as the reason why America and the former Soviet Union suddenly appeared to lose all interest in lunar exploration!
The theorists suggest that man was warned away from the Moon by aliens who were not prepared to share it with others! Interestingly, numerous comments have been attributed to astronauts alleging alien sightings on the moon, and the outline of strange geometrical shapes, domes, and
protrusions in some lunar photographs have all heightened the issue!
The Face of Mars.
On Mars, the famous Inca City - the supposed outline of an intelligent construction - was said to have turned up on official photographs that were later claimed to have been
censored. Also well known is the notorious B block - The Face of Mars as it became known. This remarkable rock formation eerily resembles the facial features of a humanoid, and is frequently cited as evidence of an intelligent presence on the planet!
All of this suggests that our Solar System may be far more active in terms of alien life than we have previously supposed. An astonishing mystery that just gets stranger and
stranger.
