Warminster
In England one of the most noted of all UFO hot-spots is Warminster in Wiltshire. This small town became especially popular in the mid-sixties when sightings there were
running at a high.
Situated on the edge of Salisbury Plain, close to the ancient monument of Stonhenge, the area has a long tradition of unexplained happenings. This was where the crop circle
enigma came to light, and the preceding incidence of UFO reports made it the focus of considerable attention. UFO investigator Jenny Randles described its popularity in the following terms: "During
the hippy days of the late Sixties, the surrounding hills were rarely without UFO watchers and local barns still sport UFO graffiti. New age hippies also still congregate here."
Translucent Craft.
Amongst the wealth of well documented incidents - many hundreds of them - that characterised the hey-day of Warminster's sightings, a number of peculiarities stood out.
Particularly common were reports of glowing orange balls or disklets that flew through the air. Local author Arthur Shuttlewood wrote numerous books on the areas happenings and gives the following
description: " Circular clusters as brilliant as diamonds have been reported over Warminster. Shimmering and snaking through the night sky, pulsating pink pearls have caused many minds to wonder and
jaws drop in bewilderment. Greenish-blue and translucent craft... have danced across Warminster hilltops in daytime, painting the heavens with radiant colours."
Equipment Malfunction.
Another peculiarity of the area was the tendency for car motors to fail, and electrical equipment malfunction for no apparent reason. Strange humming noises vexed residents
and violent winds would arise from nowhere to shake vehicles along quiet country lanes.
