Violent Solar System.
The solar system of which our Sun and Earth are members, may seem like a sedate and tranquil place, but it wasn't always this way. Indeed the evidence points to a massive
upheaval that caused monumental changes to the entire system.
Sudden Changes.
On the planet Mars for instance we find dried up water courses resembling ancient rivers. Scientists now confirm that this was once a thriving planet with a good atmosphere,
and wide flowing rivers. Then suddenly it was all obliterated. Vast quantities of surface debris in the form of rocks and boulders testify to some awesome catastrophe.
Lunar evidence.
What this catastrophe was is far from certain, but equally apparent is that this disaster was not just confined to Mars. Our own Moon shows similar signs of upheaval. Here
again we see ancient river beds, and the suggestion of a much kinder atmosphere. Theories that the Moon was once a thriving world are no longer ridiculed.
Venus.
Venus, the second planet from the Sun is another great enigma. It's surface is now permanently shrouded by thick poisonous clouds. Some scientists believe there was once
water here, and that like the Moon and Mars, it possessed an equable atmosphere, capable, at the very least of sustaining simple life forms. Then suddenly things changed for the worse, and today the
planet is a hotbed of toxic gases that swirl around in vast clouds that encircle the entire planet.
Uranus.
At the other extremity of the solar system the planet Uranus also shows signs of some cataclysmic happening. Peculiar to any other planet it lies tilted at an angle of 98
degrees - a clear sign of a devastating impact with a celestial body of unknown origin. Circling Uranus, the satellite moon Miranda is one of the strangest objects in the Solar System. While only 485
kilometers in diameter, it has cliffs up to 15 miles high, and a surface of weird parallel grooves.
Europa - the mystery of the Solar System.
Grooves are also a feature of Europa - one of the Moons of Jupiter. Here again we find baffling enigmas. There is a complete lack of vertical relief, with a surface
ostensibly as smooth as a billiard ball. Scientists believe the surface is composed of freshwater frost - a transparent covering above a striated surface filled with sinewy grooves and patterns. Once
again this hints at some sudden catastrophe that befell a biologically thriving world. Even further mystery comes from the latest satellite photos. These show an underlying surface etched with dozens of
straight line markings that bear some resemblance to the Nasca lines in Peru.
Planet X
Undoubtedly the most persuasive evidence of a violent solar system is the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. This is thought to be the remains of the legendary Planet X
- the Atlantis of the solar system. Occultists believe this was obliterated in a massive war between celestial forces in some far distant age. They believe this war accounts for the superficial evidence
of some awesome happening deep in prehistory.
The verdict of science is mixed. Some authorities keenly support the Planet X theory, while others are adamant this spatial debris represents no more than the remains of the
original matter that formed the solar system. However you look at the evidence several things are undeniable. The first is that the solar system was once a thriving environment with running rivers on at
least three planets and moons. Intelligent life might once have existed here. Then disaster! The result - a barren solar system, with only one life sustaining planet. What emerges is a frightening
picture of a fearful catastrophe that once savaged so many planets. One that may well have obliterated trillions of lives.
