Baffling phenomenon
At numerous locations across the world a particularly baffling phenomenon is causing scientists great consternation. Strange bangs are being heard. Bangs which on the face
of it have no apparent explanation and have so far defied all logical explanation. Typically the bang sounds like a loud explosion. At first it was natural to suspect all usual causes such as mining or
other man made activities. Next came an attempt to attribute the phenomena to earthquakes, sonic booms or military manoeuvres. Yet one by one each of these explanations had to be abandoned. In short the
whole matter still continues to elude any plausible explanation.
Indian Mystery
A current spate of these bangs near the city of Rajkot in north west India was recently investigated by the Indian authorities who likewise failed to find any logical
answer. Seismological equipment registered no accountable traces of earthquake activity as the source of this mystery appeared as elusive as ever.
The British Isles
Similar unexplained bangs have been noted in numerous other parts of the world, particularly in the British Isles around Morecambe Bay in the North West of England or across
the nearby Irish Sea at Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland. Nor are these bangs a particularly recent phenomenon. Accounts have been documented as far back as the 1800’s and it seems this is part of a long
existing phenomenon. But if so why is the explanation so elusive?
Underwater gas pockets.
Perhaps part of the reason why no one has come close to explaining these bangs is that attempts to investigate have so far been sporadic and rather half hearted. However one
theory deserves to be mentioned. Since most of these bangs occur close to water it is a possibility they might be connected with pockets of exploding natural gases deep underwater. There is a rather
deadly example of this. Some years ago in sub Saharan Africa pockets of gases in a volcanic lake ignited with deadly effect killing well over a thousand people together with large numbers of livestock.
While nothing like this has happened since it might be one explanation for a bizarre mystery where questions still exceed answers.
German Mystery
As a postscript to this topic we make mention of yet another puzzling phenomenon that although in some ways different still has certain similarities. Some years ago in
southern Germany a strange humming noise caused great consternation to a large number of people. The untraceable hum extended over wide areas and at times became so loud that people had trouble sleeping.
Others reported feeling sick or dizzy and found it hard to concentrate. No satisfactory reason for this hum was ever put forward and like the strange bangs of India is one more mystery in a world of very
strange and unusual happenings.
