Space 2001. Why we kept our name.

Unique year.

The year 2001 has come and gone, but still this site is named Space 2001. So why didn’t we change to Space 2002? The reason for this is that in many ways 2001 was a unique year and of course this is exactly the way we thought it would be. Our feeling was that 2001 would prove to be a determinative year. It was after all the start of the real millennium and this alone placed it in a very important category.

Turning point

But there was something else about 2001. It was the feeling that the world was on the brink of massive changes. September 11th was to many people an obvious turning point yet we feel sure that the full implications behind events that transpired during 2001 won’t fully be appreciated for some time to come.

Pleased to be 2001

Naturally as the year turned to 2002 some people wondered why we didn’t also change our name. Our reply was always the same: That we thought compelled to retain the title of a year that we still believe was a rendezvous with destiny - one of the most important turning points in the history of this planet. Hence we are pleased to remain Space 2001.
