Clapham Wood:
The strange events associated with Clapham Wood on the South Downs of Suffolk is one that has been investigated with a great deal of thoroughness. For years Clapham Wood had
become renowned for its strange events and happenings.
Bizarre Energy.
According to the most dramatic accounts, dogs, and horses, and even a local rector have gone missing in the wood, never to return. Areas of bizarre energy are supposed to
cause animals and humans to panic, and a mysterious crater where nothing will grow is believed to have been the site of a UFO landing! A local press report deepened the mystery yet further by the
disclosure of a forensic report concerning a man found dead in the woods. This stated that although the man had been dead for barely two weeks the natural process of tissue decay had in this case been
greatly accelerated by some unknown factor!
Six Glowing Objects.
Several UFO landings have also been witnessed in the area including an incredible sighting by UFO investigator Paul Glover. One starlit night in 1967 Glover and a friend
were astonished to see a massive boomerang shaped object rush by low overhead with a tremendous back surge of wind! Later on Glover and a friend observed at least six glowing yellow objects descend in
the woods, sprouting beams of white light that penetrated the thick woodland. Glover also claimed to have taken photographs that subsequent development showed to have features not seen at the time of
exposure!
Black Shape.
In 1977 another investigator Dave Stringer was recording high levels of radioactivity on his Geiger counter when suddenly an enormous black shape appeared immediately in
front of him. Moments later a dazzling white disc shot out from the trees and disappeared into the sky above him! Subsequent investigation of the spot where the black shape materialised led to the
discovery of a foot imprint twice as wide as a full grown adult, but with only four toes!
Weird Happenings.
Dozens of other reported encounters enhanced the already mysterious reputation of these woods yet further! An article entitled Under the Greenwood Tree published in the
magazine "The Unexplained" commented: "That there is 'something weird' in the woods has always been rumoured. But what that something is, no one seems to know!"
No Invention.
Over the years the strange catalogue of events and happenings associated with Clapham Wood continue to grow, though locals remain highly skeptical. One investigator pointed
out that this may be because they rarely venture into the woods at night, which is when most of these things happen! He was adamant that Clapham Wood's reputation was no mere invention, and felt certain
that strange things will always continue to happen there!
Perhaps the truth is that every once in awhile strange things do indeed happen there - incidents that villagers would sooner not know about!
