Alien Abduction.
Like many other aspects of the UFO mystery alien abduction of humans is one that has existed for thousands of years. Since earliest times there have always been those who
have claimed to have been taken away aboard flaming chariots to "the home of the gods". Ancient literature is especially rich with such accounts, and it is obvious we have here a continuing trend with a surprisingly consistent identity.
The fact is that whatever the age, and whatever the era, abduction accounts have abounded. As you will read elsewhere in this magazine it was often dangerous to talk of such
things. During the Middle Ages for instance four abductees narrowly avoided being burnt at the stake after they were seen falling from an alien space craft.
Modern times.
In modern times alien abduction accounts have continued to flourish, and it quickly became apparent that this was a phenomenon that functions on several different levels.
Although we use the word abduction to mean a physical transportation of the body, many abduction incidents involve only the mind.
Dream state awareness.
Literally thousands of people testify to having strangely vivid dreams that later seem to have been much more than a dream. Typically the person involved is transported
aboard an alien space craft, where they are shown strange and mystical worlds, or subjected to prolonged medical examination. This could of course be explained in terms of a manufactured consciousness,
but intriguingly enough such people often display interesting signs that are not easy to explain. Some wake up to find weird marks or burns on their body. Others find their psychic and intellectual
powers considerably enhanced, with a changed outlook to the world around them. Yet others display genuine medical complaints - feelings of lethargy, headaches, or dizziness.
Hypnosis.
Under hypnosis, abductees often tell of floating up to meet with the alien entities in a form of astral projection. Contrast this with the experience of others who claim to
have been bodily abducted while fully conscious. Even here there are elements of an altered state of awareness, as abductees struggle to come to terms with abrupt time loses, or suddenly find themselves
transported dozens of miles in an instant.
Villas Boas.
Nowhere is the abduction phenomenon more active than the South American continent which has the highest incidence of abduction accounts than anywhere else on Earth. The most
astonishing of these is the Villas Boas incident.
In 1957 Villas Boas, a Brazilian farmer, was working his fields with a tractor when he claims he was abducted by aliens and taken aboard a hovering space craft. Here he was
confronted by five alien creatures dressed in close fitting grey garments and helmets, through which he could see gleaming blue eyes. The beings then removed his clothes and wiped him down with an
odourless liquid. Blood was then drained from him and he was left on his own before being visited by a beautiful fair-skinned female alien with whom he was made to have sexual intercourse. Boas described
her as around 4 feet 8 inches tall with "high cheekbones, a pointed chin, and vivid blue 'Chinese-type' slant eyes ." Later Boas claims to have been given an extensive tour of the spacecraft
before being allowed to go free.
The case was thoroughly investigated and researchers admitted feeling impressed at the clarity of Boas evidence. In the ensuing months and years the details were checked and
rechecked by dozens of separate people without revealing any contradiction to the story.
Many other abduction accounts have a similar reference to sex. The clear impression as explained by Villas Boas was the desire for the aliens to raise half human children
in space.
In fact a consistent aspect behind many female abductions is this emphasis on sexual contact. This can sometimes involve the removal of foetus's from the womb, or a probing of the sexual organs. In all respects a very clear intention to investigate the secrets of human reproduction.
The Catanduva Incident.
Brazil has several other, very striking abduction accounts. For instance on the 26 th of April 1974 a local salesman driving to Julio de Mesquita claims to have been
abducted aboard an alien space ship almost exactly a year after a horrifying encounter that he was lucky to survive. On that occasion a light beam from a hovering oval shaped object struck him to the
ground where he lay dazed and confused in the rain for several hours. He was finally rescued by passing police officers who took him to the closest hospital.
A year later.
Amazingly a year onwards, the same witness disappeared while on a short drive to a neighbouring village and was not found again until six days later. Under regression
hypnosis he claimed to have been abducted by blond-haired entities who subjected him to a detailed medical examination.
The Travis Walton Affair.
The above account also bears a strong similarity to another encounter, this time from the USA, in what was to become known as the Travis Walton incident.
Briefly the facts are these: In November 1975 Walton and a team of six other loggers were returning home to the town of Snowflake Arizona, when their pick-up truck was
confronted by a glowing yellow object that hovered above the road in front of them. Gripped by a strange compulsion Walton leapt from the vehicle and ran straight towards the object. Ignoring his friends
pleas to turn back Walton was struck by an intense beam of light that knocked him off his feet. Terrified, his comrades left him for dead and made off in their truck. Several miles further on however a
growing sense of guilt made them return to the place of the incident, though by this time there was no UFO, and no Walton to be found.
Police suspicions.
In the days that followed, a massive police search failed to turn up any clue as to Walton's whereabouts. The police suspected foul play and his friends came under intense
suspicion. Then six days after the incident Walton's sister received a surprise phone call from her confused brother from a nearby town. Badly shaken he was unable to explain what happened. Later under
hypnosis however he was able to give a clearer account. In this testimony he claims to have been transported aboard the alien space ship and examined by three figures. In his own words: "It was
weird. They weren't humans. They looked like foetuses to me, about 5 feet tall, and they wore tight-fitting brown robes. Their skin was white like a mushroom but they had no clear features."
Walton claims he picked up a transparent tube to use as a weapon. The figures then fled in terror. Then another being emerged and he was led to a control seat and allowed to
play with some switches. Suddenly he found himself outside, shaking on the highway. Explains Walton: " I know people won't believe me, that they'll call me a freak or a crackpot but I was in their
space craft and I met those creatures."
Betty and Barney Hill.
Another abduction case involving a time lapse mystery occurred in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in September 1961. Betty and Barney Hill were returning home
after a holiday in Canada when they became aware of a strange light following behind their car. This kept pace with them for very nearly an hour. Curious to know what it was, they stopped by the roadside
and studied it through binoculars. At this point figures began to emerge from the craft - humanoids dressed all in black, with piercing blue eyes. Terrified by this amazing apparition the Hills
got back in the car only to discover they had instantly been transported at least 35 miles away. Even more amazingly an hour had elapsed in little more than several seconds.
Although the Hills did their best to forget the incident they eventually sought psychiatric help after experiencing distressing nightmares involving strange beings. Later,
under hypnosis the couple recalled the missing hour. They had been taken aboard the space-craft where samples of flesh hair, skin, and nails were taken. Samples of sperm were extracted from Barney Hill
and later the couple were shown a star chart pinpointing the aliens point of origin. This outline of stars was eventually compared with an astronomical chart and from the description given a professional
astronomer was able to single out the "home planet" as being close to the star Zeta Reticulii.
PC Alan Godfrey.
In England the most notable time lapse incident occurred near Todmorden, West Yorkshire in November 1980. In the early hours of the 28 th of that month, PC Alan Godrey was
looking for a herd of stray cows when he became aware of a huge oval shaped object hovering above the road in front of him. Making a quick sketch of the object in his note book he was then astonished to
find himself much further down the road than he should have been. Slightly confused he felt convinced something strange had happened. His boot had split, and riding back to the scene of the sighting he
found the surface of the wet road dried in a peculiar swirl pattern.
Under hypnosis Godfrey recalled being floated aboard the space craft and placed on a table. Like so many other abductions he was then medically examined by a group of small
beings with heads shaped like lamps. These were presided over by a much taller being in a white gown who told him that they knew him and would one day return.
The immense publicity surrounding the case eventually led to PC Godfrey losing his job. Despite this he has always been adamant this was not an illusion. Insists Godfrey:
" I know what I saw on the road that night. It was real!"
The Alfred Burtoo Incident.
On occasions people taken aboard strange craft have been rejected for being in some way unacceptable for their purposes. This is exactly what happened to Alfred Burtoo. In
August 1983, Burtoo, who was 77 at that time, was fishing alongside a canal near Aldershot, when a bright light landed close by on the tow path. Two figures then emerged dressed in green suits with face
visors. They beckoned to Burtoo, then led him up the steps inside the huge spinning object. After a brief examination he was told he was too old and infirm and was allowed to go free.
Another unusual aspect of this incident was that Burtoo retained full recollection of it without the necessity of hypnotic regression.
Common Pattern.
These highlighted cases are only the tip of a vast iceberg of such happenings from around the world. If they are to be believed - and there is no reason to doubt them - then
our species is being systematically examined by space beings who for some reason want to probe our inner most secrets like curious specimens in a laboratory experiment. A proposition that is surely as
disturbing as it is uncanny. Said one observer: "Let just hope their intentions are honourable".
